The
school now has 1500 pupils in 7 year groups (although there was a
period finishing in 1992 when there were no 11 year olds in the
school because they stayed in the middle school system for an extra
year). The sixth form
has 350 pupils. The
school also continues to take visually impaired pupils from all over
the north of England.
Apart from lessons in a wide variety of subjects there are also
opportunities to take part in sport, music, The Duke of Edinburgh
Award, drama, charity work, overseas visits and a wide range of
special clubs and societies.
There is a school
dress code for years 7 to 11. All
pupils are expected to wear a school sweatshirt in black, navy,
charcoal grey or burgundy. They
should also wear an undershirt or jumper with a roll neck or collar,
black trousers or skirt and black shoes.
There
are also special school sports clothes which include a reversible
rugby shirt, socks and various shirts, shorts, skirts and footwear.
